Eligibility Conditions

A divorced wife may request a duplicate family record book if she has not remarried and has been granted custody by court order.

A widow may keep custody of it unless a contrary judgment has been issued.

Required Documents

Submit a file containing the following documents:

  • Loss certificate
  • Passport-style photo of the head of the family
  • Copy of the husband’s national ID card
  • Marriage extract
  • Birth extracts for both spouses
  • Birth extracts for the other family members
  • Fee due for the family record book

Notes

Note 1: Any entry in the family record book can only be made by an authorized civil status officer. No other person may add amendments or notes.

Note 2: If the head of the family who keeps the book dies or is deprived of civil rights by judgment, the right to keep the book returns to the wife unless a judgment states otherwise.

Note 3: Civil status documents extracted from the family record book have, by law, the same evidentiary value as those extracted from the original register.

Note 4: Anyone who intentionally uses documents issued based on a family record book containing incomplete or incorrect information is punishable by one year of imprisonment and a fine of 240 dinars.
