The Municipality of Bir Mcherga was established pursuant to Decree No. 566 of 1985,
dated April 6, 1985. It is located north of the city of Zaghouan,
the governorate capital, and covers an area of 31,146 hectares.
The municipality has a population of 14,604 inhabitants according to
the latest census of 2014
Despite its relatively recent establishment, Bir Mcherga is considered
the third most industrially developed area in the Zaghouan Governorate.
It hosts 28 industrial enterprises that employ a significant portion
of the local workforce. The area is also characterized by strong agricultural activity,
particularly irrigated farming, supported by the waters of the Bir Mcherga Dam
